LOST EARRING?

This is always such a bummer :(

We get lots of requests to see if we sell just 1 earring. Sadly we can’t offer that because we just end up with too many odds and ends ourselves. But just email us at staceyjohnsonjewelry@gmail.com and we can give you a one time code for a deal on a replacement pair! The good news is that you will have a back-up if one gets lost again. #winwin

(this is valid one time per customer)

WHAT THE HECK IS 14K ROLLED GOLD?

Great question. It’s a sheet of 14k gold that has been rolled up onto itself . This creates a hollow part, which is then filled with jeweler’s alloy. This process allows 14k gold to be on the entire outside of the piece instead of just “sprayed” on as it is with gold plated jewelry. Because the hollowed out part is filled it is also much less expensive than solid 14k gold. Some parts of the globe refer to it as gold-filled and some rolled gold.

The quality is fantastic. It lasts for years and years, and contains no nickel that can cause irritation to the skin.

WILL IT TARNISH?

This depends solely on where and how you keep your jewelry. “Tarnish” - or for us nerds out there “oxidation” - is a natural chemical reaction. When silver is exposed to open air, over time sulfur-containing particles in the air are attracted to the silver and land on it. This is what forms that dark and grungy tarnish film on your jewelry.

To keep this chemical reaction from happening store your jewelry in an airtight jewelry box. Even a plastic baggie works great. If you keep your jewelry exposed on a dresser or hanging in a closet you are asking for trouble and tarnish is inevitable.

The good news is that tarnish is easy to remove with the right cleaning. Below is a good cleaning method.

EASY JEWELRY CLEANING METHOD

Want to know a jeweler’s secret? Toothpaste. Yep. Toothpaste.

It is a perfect jewelry cleaner for most fine jewelry out there. Just rub some toothpaste on the palm on your hand and then add your jewelry, a little warm water, and massage it around for a bit. You can also use an old toothbrush for the hard to reach spots. Viola! It will be like new again.

Toothpaste has just enough mild “grit” to break the tarnish layer that has temporarily bonded to your jewelry.

HOW TO CARE FOR ROMAN GLASS

It took at least 400 years to get that amazing patina within your Roman glass jewelry. So here’s a couple tips to keep them in great condition. Don’t wear Roman glass while bathing or swimming because the water can cause the patina to fade. Don’t allow Roman glass to come into contact with lots of perfume, extensive amounts of lotion, sunscreen, or massage oil. These chemicals can damage the ancient patina that makes this jewelry so special.
